Teaching Grammar

Introduction

Grammar is structure in language. It is like rule in a language. There is some prohibition and suggestion when we learn other language.  What should be used and shouldn't, what good or what better to use or not. Learning grammar in the past is relative odd, it only teaches us about the formula in language. It actually isn't necessary when we learn language, we don't need formula but we need to use it and practice it. One good news is now; we have technology to help us learn grammar genius.

1. Corpus of Contemporary America English (COCA)

The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) is the only large, genre-balanced corpus of American English. COCA is probably the most widely-used corpus of English, and it is related to many other corpora of English that we have created, which offer unparalleled insight into variation in English. The corpus contains more than 560 million words of text (20 million words each year 1990-2017) and it is equally divided among spoken, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, and academic texts.

Reflection

In this session, I learned about how to make grammar quiz using class marker. Class marker is a website that used for make quiz. One difference between this website with another is this especially use for online and requires students to do it online too.  When we use this app, we need to make an account first and students have to sign in to when they want to do task.  Teachers can create grammar quiz using this website, this web is made special for make grammar quiz.  Teachers can share the link to the students and then student will be clicking and start to do quiz, this is how the web works.

My experience used this web is challenging. I don't understand how the web is work at first, but after I discover the entire menu in this website. I found it is work when we share link to public and then someone with class marker account can sign in. Unfortunately, after I discover this web, there are some features that cannot be used if we don't purchase, this web is not free.  So, if we want to make our quiz can done by everyone we need to register to pay.
